Clinic time!

So here I am, on the eve of my first T-tapp clinic. I am leaving early in the a.m. to drive to the west side of the state.... where I will consequently sweat for 3+ hours (and I'm PAYING for it! What sort of drugs am I on?!), and then drive over to spend the evening with Beth, Darryl, and the ankle-biters.

I am excited to see Beth's family, and nervous to work out for that long. I will check back in with y'all when I get back home. Pray for a safe trip!

A sobering feeling.... and some random thoughts

I've been thinking about this off and on since getting the call from the courthouse yesterday. The clerk for the judge who presided over the case I was on called me to let me know what the defendant's sentence ended up being. Fifteen to thirty for the first-degree charge, and 10-15 for the second-degree charges. That's a long time.... I had a part in that. It's all very eye-opening to me. Clearly, justice was served, but part of me prays that jail is rehabilitative for this guy--and not that it jades him even further. I think on some level he was an okay person, but he obviously had some big problems. Fifteen to thirty years.

I am sitting here wondering what my day should entail. I'm mentally and physically kind of burned out, as Billy has worked overtime every night this week. I am looking forward to getting away tomorrow, but I am not looking forward to leaving Billy behind on the only two days he has off work (although THAT'S yet to be determined).

Izzy is standing next to me, smelling unpleasant. We walked down to the barn yesterday, the whole while walking through clouds of skunk. It doesn't smell like she was skunked, really (I've smelled THAT, and this is a thousand times less unpleasant), but just that her fur is holding on to the scent we walked through. If she had been skunked last night I probably would've hurt myself. I was tired and that's the last thing I would've felt like doing (even if I wasn't tired!)

Guess it's time to take the stinky puppies outside. Ciao!

In Memory of Snickers

I was delivered some sad news this morning (Tuesday). When my mother-in-law's boyfriend woke up, he found his German Shepherd had passed away sometime during the night. Snickers had been fighting a mystery illness for several weeks; it was thought she maybe had gotten into some antifreeze, but that was never confirmed. Jed had prayed last night that she would be healed or her suffering would end. God chose the latter.

This is sad to me, not just for the reason that she was my mother-in-law's dog, but because I dogsat for Snickers for two months last year until they were able to move into a rental home that allowed pets. It was a particularly hard time for me, as I was waist-deep within my postpartum depression, and she was my third large dog in a small house. She was clingy (followed on my heels from room to room all day long) and witchy to Izzy and Abby. We didn't trust her with Logan, as she wasn't familiar with kids and he is a dog tormenter.... and yet, she would guard Hunter when he was in his bouncy seat (even after she moved back with my mother-in-law she was still protective of Hunter) or in his crib. I would visit my mother-in-law, and she would bark at me until I came inside.... then she would flatten her ears down, sit by my side, and let me pet her as long as I cared to do so.

The dog helped drive me crazy, but at the same time some part of me missed her when she moved to her new home. I will miss her in that same strange way. I am glad that she is at peace now, though. Poor dear.

A woman of few words.... tonight.

Nothing much to say tonight (I'm too tired), but I did want to report that I did the first half of the Beginner/Rehab (B/R) workout at 4 reps instead of 8.... then continued on with 8 reps for the second half of the workout. I even went on to do Steppin' Away the Inches (SATI). I didn't think I was going to make it because my head was throbbing every time I bent down to pick something up. My stamina surprised me, since I've not done a workout since Thursday because of my sinus infection and Hunter's birthday party. Yay!

Anyway, good night!
