My kid is smarter than your kid!

Okay, so, not really. But it sounded so unbelievably juvenile, so I thought it fit.

I went out to eat with my Aunt Susie today.... that is, after I had to be picked up by Billy because the timing belt on the Honda went kaput at a light. (Some very nice semi-drivers pushed me off the side of the road, a-thank you very much!) At lunch, Aunt Sue was talking about how her supervisor thinks Logan is "gifted." See, Logan has gone on a few of our lunch outings, and he seriously fascinates my aunt with the things he does and says. He makes her maps and draws puzzle pieces and then asks her to do something with them, and she says this is very advanced. Her supervisor guesses that Logan's IQ is at least 140. I think this is sort of funny.

The supervisor suggests that Logan gets IQ testing done at U of M. The supervisor says that I should skip a montessori--nay, even Roeper is beneath my child's intelligence. I am to take him to a school worthy of his brain--Country Day! I never knew that Country Day was a school full of geniuses. I mean, I'd been there, but I was mostly impressed because, heck, they had a pool. And a track. In my educational experience, this was heaven. Springfield had a soccer field/baseball diamond and a gym. Woot! But, really, Country Day--no matter how nice it is--never seemed like it was the place to go if you just had to use your mind.

So they are convinced I need to tap into his mental resources, and I will probably do the IQ testing after we get moved in. I am skeptical, of course, but if he is smarter than I believe, I'd at least like to know how to deal with him more proficiently.... How should I be motivating him, rewarding him, disciplining him if they are correct?

I think it's doubly funny because my neighbor told me once that her psychic told her that her 11-year-old son was the gifted one in their family, not their 16-year-old daughter, like they had first thought. Which is all well and good until you throw in the fact that said daughter is sitting right next to her mom while she is saying this. I don't know the girl, but I wanted to hug her and slap her mother, all at the same time.

We did a lot of vacuuming at the new house tonight, so I am very sleepy. It looks so much better, but so much needs to be worked on before we will close on the house.... It's ridiculous that tradesmen think they can get away with some of this stuff! Anyway.

This is Melinda (notice how I always say who I am now)... and I am in agreement with Susie. I have always said to John that I thought Logan was more intelligent that the average 6 year old, I think that is why he acts out in the ways that he does. I don't claim to understand him completely but his mind is working in ways that Marissa and even Mitchell don't understand.

Billy and I are laughing about your comments. =) And if Meagan happens to read this, don't worry--I'll slap John for you. Heh.

I know I'm overfaced by my child when I am absolutely rendered speechless at least once a day. I am curious to see what the testing turns up so I know how to learn how to deal.
